Syclops - A Lovely Sunday
June 22nd, 2008 / 8:04 pm No comments

I end todays posting with this. Maurice Fulton in full effect. From his only release on his own Bubble Tease label back in 2001. But it sounds almost fresher now. I’ll guess today was a good day.

This could be one of the biggest miss match’s of voice, tune and looks in music history. But what a voice and what a tune. What a tune.

Mr Vegas - Must Come A Road
June 22nd, 2008 / 7:25 pm No comments

I totally missed this when it come out. Mr Vegas use Barrington Levy’s “Prison Oval Rock” very effective. (for all of you in Sweden that more into Bredband than Jamaican music - Barrington Levi is the guy who does “Here I Come (Broader than Broadway)” which you can hear everywhere now in a pretty awfull comercial for Bredbandsbolaget.)

Erol Alkan presents Disco 3000
June 22nd, 2008 / 7:12 pm 1 comment

Killer disco mix from Erol Alkan made on “2 turntables with the aid of a 1970’s Cat Octave synth and Korg Stage Echo”.

I’ve put together a 80 minute mix of some disco vibes which are lighting up my stratosphere. I began mixing it up just for my own selfish i pod needs during a day off i had at christmas and only recently got round to finishing due to album commitments. Most of the tracks are re-edited in some form or over, and i splashed some moody synth drizzle over some of the beats. It’s more of a tribute to the beauty of tape edits and letting tracks play for a good while, build moods, and groove out”, Erol told Clitspit recently.

Andrés - Salvador de Bahia 1
June 22nd, 2008 / 11:11 am No comments

No, baby. We’re never gonna forget about Detroit. He used to be DJ for Slum Village, plays percussions in Theo Parrish’s The Rotating Assembly and produce mad moody hiphop beats as DJ Dez.

On this brazil-meets-Detroit joint, released in 2003 on Moodymann’s Mahogani label, he have dressed up in the suit I personally like the best: the techno/house alias Andrés.

The sample he’s using is well used in a bunch of cheesy Latin house tracks but as many of his Detroit colleagues he manage to take something pretty well known and create something totally unique. Simple but effective.

Herman Kelly & Life - Refreshing Love
June 22nd, 2008 / 10:34 am No comments

Miami based Herman Kelly is most known for creating “Dance To The Drummer’s Beat” - one of the most used disco breaks in hiphop history. I don’t know how many of you who been listening to the whole album. It took me many years but when I did I found this boogie and latin influenced midtempo groover.

I don’t know if I have something wrong with my ears but isn’t they singing about someone who have a very special love - a real SWEDISH love? Not sure if I wanna know what they mean by that.

It’s a good song anyway if you’re not afraid of a little cheese.

You should also look out for a killer minimal house remix of “You Belong” from no other than Chicago veteran Derrick Carter.
