Oh, Baby – I Like it Raw

Feist - Sea Line Woman (bootleg remix)
April 30th, 2008 / 8:03 am 4 comments

Ah, I almost forgot. The McDonalds of Swedish rock clubs - Debaser - are doing their superp music documentary/tribute club En Afton tonight in Malmö. And this time they’re having a tribute to Nina Simone.

This bootleg house remix of Feist’s cover of Nina Simone’s “Sea Line Woman” was released last year in a very limited edition of 500 ex only. The people behind it were Swedens own house combo Marymary (guess you can figure of their real names, because there ain’t that many combos in Sweden that are into deep, latin influed house music).

As usual the food loving Swedes are doing a real good job transforming Feist’s trademark Starbucks jazz into a perfect deep groover for the late night hours.

Class Action - Weekend (M&M Vocal Mix)
April 30th, 2008 / 7:40 am No comments

This working week ends early in Sweden. What better reason to dig up Class Action and Chris Wiltshire’s late version of Leroy Burgess and James Calloways classic tribute to the weekend hedonism (or bad relationships if you’re in that mood). The bad thing for me is that I’m the one who’s staying home tonight. So enjoy yourself kids.

Ray Barretto - Pastime Paradise

The greatest cover version of all time? Maybe. Late latin percussion legend Ray Barretto’s 80s disco version of one of Stevie Wonder’s greatest tracks is just sooo good.

Oh, Baby - I like It Raw may 2nd

24:hours
April 28th, 2008 / 12:07 pm No comments

I was on a rollercoaster of ups’n’downs for 24 hours this weekend. First on Friday, a pretty boring PR-gig that later transformed to a real inspirational session with Malmö musician Sebastian Lilja. Then a tremendous concert with French reggae band The Dynamics. The next three hours or so included a visit to Deluxe at Jeriko and Klubb Kollo at KB who hosted Anton Qlint who played the forthcoming release of Jens Lekman on Rollerboys recordings. You better watch out for that one. It’s going to be huge.

Saturday was dedicated to some traditional crate digging involving everybody from yesterday. Emil Broomé of Stephen Hawkins, Simon Åberg of Deluxe, Jakob Hultman, Anton and myself where fighting over Will Powers, Annabel Lamb among others.

One good thing was that we finally managed to solve the mystery of that A Mountain of One-edit of Mott the Hoople that been bothering us since we first heard it because no one managed to get hold of a original copy of the song.

Now it seems that it wasn’t a Mott The Hoople track but a Ian Hunter solo recording that you probably could find on your local flea market for a dollar.

I leave out the bad things for now.

Young & Company - Waiting On Your Love
April 24th, 2008 / 8:29 pm 3 comments

If I’m not mistaken this was used by Metro Area on their debut. Nice disco groover. I’ve been forced to have Madonnas new album on repeat the last days (if you read Swedish you can find a review in Sydsvenskan today) so I needed something more laidback.

Young & Company - Waiting On Your Love (320)

Update: I just noticed that I seem to have recorded “I Like What You’re Doing To Me” in the same file. So you got two great songs from the album for the same price here.

Angie Stone - Wish I Didn’t Miss You Anymore (Nuff Wish Remix)
April 23rd, 2008 / 11:47 pm 2 comments

There’s millions of singles and edits floating around where someone out an R&B or hiphop accapella over a vintage Studio One riddim. Much of it is crap but some of them could actualy compete with the original recordning. Angie Stone are visiting Malmo tonight which is a good reason to post this roots remake of one of the greates soul songs of this decade.

Edwyn Collins - You Never Know My Love (Ashley Beedle’s We Love you Edwyn Edit)
April 23rd, 2008 / 11:26 pm 1 comment

I just noticed that this is out on a twelve inch on Heavenly. Ashley Beedle extend Edwyn Collins modern blue eyed soul anthem from this fall. This was earlier included on the “Love From The Heavy Disco Crew” CD I talked about before. So it seems that we could expect to hear some more of those edits in a near future. Fantastic song what so ever. From a fantastic singer.

You can buy the twelve inch at Piccadilly if you’re going to play it out. If you are the creator or copyright owner of a song posted here and would like it removed please email info@ohbabyilikeitraw.com and we’ll do so.
