Agnetha Fältskog – Wrap Your Arms Around Me (Villa edit)

Amazing edit of the former Abba singer from Copenhagens Belgiums Villa. You can download all of their Mindless Boogie-edits here.

Vidderna – Dubbelliv

Things are realy happening at the moment in Malmo if your into that psychic-disco-rock escapism. Sergio Rizzolo over at Discoakademin shared this fantastic Vidderna track recently.

Bryan Ferry - Slave To Love (Vidderna Edit)

This was a nice suprise for me. Sergio Rizzolo, one of the local disco dudes here in Malmo, posted this edit on his new cosmic/balearic blog Diskoakademin recently.
It just happens to be a great soft rock edit from local combo Vidderna. Behind the name Vidderna is the duo Markus Clemmedson (Climber & Tiger) and Niklas Tjäder.
Check out more of their edits here.

Fever Ray - When I Grow Up (Dan Lissvik remix)
How good is this on scale from 1-10? Dan Lissvik from The Studio takes Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer of The Knife) to the balearic islands. Massive. From Discobelle.
Amadou & Mariam - Anka Miri Gnogon Na

I hope none of you manage to miss “Welcome To Mali” by Amadou & Mariam, one of the best albums of 2008. The acoustic “Anka Miri Gnogon Na”, from their earlier career, is even better. And that guitar intro/loop seems perfect to sample if you ask me.

Get ready for the dancehall tonight!

Photo: Beth Lesser (from her highly recommended book book on Soul Jazz “Dancehall - The Rise of Jamaican Dancehall Culture”)
It seems like this evening could end up in a blast. First: This years first Oh, Baby In Dub at Metro. Then we have both David Rodigan at Inkonst/The Rumble and Wassup Rocker’s Filippa Freijd aka Filip Mode Squad at Backlash/Babel together with Mad Decents Boy 8-Bit among others.

Johanna Billing and Arthur Russell walks on the moon

There was some writings about Swedish artist/musician Johanna Billing and her exhibition “This Is How We Walk On The Moon” at Malmö Konsthall this summer. One thing most of us journalists didn’t manage to do was to draw the line between her work and Arthur Russell, especially the song “This Is How We Walk On The Moon” which gave name to the exhibition.
Johanna Billings own version of one of the most beautiful songs Arthur Russell ever wrote could be found on the soundtrack for the movie/exhibition. Both her version and the original would bring tears to your eyes.

Early 90s revisited - Jungle Brothers for free!

The Native Tongues - the 80s collective of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Monie Love and Jungle Brothers among others - was one of the main reasons for me getting into hiphop.
Jungle Brothers, or at least 2/3 of the original members, are visiting Malmo tomorrow (thursday). And the big news are that it doesn’t cost a dime. FREE ENTRANCE!
Sons of Soul is a sadly forgotten Swedish hiphop group who was heavy influenced by the Native Tongues. The group consisted of DJ Crazy (who later became a celebrated name on the drum & bass-scene in Sweden), Ben McCarty and Robert Åsard. The Don of Swedish house music, Stonebridge, was also involved mixing Sons of Souls selftitled debut (and only album I think?) and produced some of the tracks.
Just recently I discover Sons Of Soul (or someone else) have create amyspace-page for the group.
Here you can listen to a real good little radio feature on Sons of Soul with Swedish hiphop journalist Broadcaster D.
This one has been a personal favourite since the album was released way back in 1991.
