Pugh - Love, Love, Love

Some of you might recognize Pugh from our west coast brothers in Gothenburg and their rework of his “Stockholm”. But the man from the island Gotland on Swedens east coast did some real funky stuff much earlier, often together with amazing drummer Jan Karlsson who later on become a TV/movie-celeb in Sweden (that’s “Loffe” Karlsson for all you folks here in Sweden).
If you don’t believe me check out his drum work on “Love, Love, Love”. It’s so good that DJ Shadow adopted it on his debut “Entroducing… DJ Shadow”.
You can find the whole album “(Ja, dä ä dä!) on repress on CD.

Eric Prydz feat Apollo - Mighty Love

I’m not sure but I think this could be one of the Call On Me-man first records ever. If I remember right I bought it in 2000 or 2001 directly from Mark Seven (yepp, THAT Mark Seven). Back then he worked as a manager for a totally unknown swedish house producer called Eric Prydz. Three years later he wasn’t that unknown anymore.
The discohouse production don’t sound as fresh today as it did the first time I heard Johanna Olofsson played it at Club Massive in Stockholm. But check it out if you’re interested in how Prydz sounded before he was all over the charts.
Eric Prydz are visiting Malmo tomorrow thursday for the first time so I thought that would be a good reason to dig it up for you. It’s a one sided promo so I guess it’s pretty rare because I can’t find it on Discogs.

Gimmicks - Visst är du kär

Okidoki, I’m starting a new category here called “From Sweden With Love” totaly dedicated to Swedish music. I guess it could be rock, disco, soul and hiphop aslong as it comes straight outa Svedala or Sweden in general.
What better way to start it then with one of the most in demand Swedish groups from the 60s and 70s and their amazing cover of Creative Source’s funky soul classic “You Can’t Hide Love”.
For more of Gimmicks check out therir webpage. Then you head straight to Record Mania and get a own copy of the “Simsalabim”.

Uggla - Sommartid

Last night I manage to miss this seasons first(?) open air afterparty in Malmo. That sucks. But I guess we could agree that the summer is here for sure. Swedish pop veteran Magnus Uggla’s electronic disco version of his own “Sommartid” (summertime) from 1981 are probebly old news for some of you. It was one of the most played songs at Oh, Baby when we started back in 2006, then in a edit of Just Like Music. But it sounds as good today and because I’m in a sunny mood today I’ll put up the original version here for all internationel readers as well as everyone who missed it the last time.

Tomas Ledin - La Floridita

Vi kör svensk temadag här på Oh, Baby - I Like It Raw.

Rickfors - Turn To Me

Robyn feat. Structure Rize - You Got That Something (Golden Youngster Remix)

Last year I approached Niklas Mijdema, one of the dons at our always friendly blog neighbours Discobelle, about doing a mixtape for them with tracks from Sweden only. He thought it would be a great idea but other thing got in between and we haven’t got the time to do it yet. But maybe it will be done someday.
Anyway this is one of the main reasons that I wanted to do that mixtape. Taken from a promo only twelve from 1996, the Golden Youngster remix of Swedish pop soul queen Robyns “You’ve Got That Somethin’” is definitely a rare one. With the use of the guitar sample from Mobb Deeps “Shook One’s part II”, a MASSIVE bassline (jus’ listen to it on a PA system) and a for me unknown British rapper called Evress from the group Structure Rize they created a boom bap R&B-track that’s simply the bomb.
