It’s seems that we’re having a hiphop and Jamaica week here at Oh, Baby - I Like It Raw. Hope you don’t mind. If you missed this great mixtape earlier from Project Groundation got get it at the Original Bangarang. It’s a real good introduction to some of the best dancehall and hiphop hits from the last years.

It reminded me of a top notch mixtape from brittish duo The Nextmen from last year or so. It’s a great mix of classic hiphop, reggae and dancehall sounds. If you’re into that stuff you should give it a try.

Killer disco mix from Erol Alkan made on “2 turntables with the aid of a 1970’s Cat Octave synth and Korg Stage Echo”.

“I’ve put together a 80 minute mix of some disco vibes which are lighting up my stratosphere. I began mixing it up just for my own selfish i pod needs during a day off i had at christmas and only recently got round to finishing due to album commitments. Most of the tracks are re-edited in some form or over, and i splashed some moody synth drizzle over some of the beats. It’s more of a tribute to the beauty of tape edits and letting tracks play for a good while, build moods, and groove out”, Erol told Clitspit recently.

There’s a few DJ-mixes that have reach almost legendary status on the house and disco scene in Sweden. Mika Snickars disco-set, recorded live at the Fusion club (todays Raw Fusion) on their release party for the Strut Compilation “Larry Levan Live At The Paradise Garage”, june 2000, is definitely one of them.

It was later on pressed on a CDR and distributed as a give away to guests at Raw Fusion in a very limited edition. Now the man in Helsinki, DJ Anonymous (who else?) have made it available again.

BTW the flyer from the night, which you can see above, was made by Swedish design combo Vår who today are most famous for their work with Cheap Monday jeans and the Weekday stores.

I’ve been trying to figure out the track list for the mix but there’s still a few one track I didn’t manage to get so feel free to drop a line if you recognize it.

Via finfina bloggen Another Night On Earth ramlade jag över en helt makalös dubbig Jamaica-disco-deephouse-mix signerad DJ Harri som i mer än 20 år varit resident på klubben Sub Club i Glasgow. Den har cirkulerat nätet sedan i höstas men har ni liksom jag missat den tidigare borde ni absolut kolla in den. Det är en av de bästa DJ-mixar jag hört på år. Lite som om The Dynamics hängt med 80-talets Bobby Konders till Body & Soul.

Våren och sommaren 2006 spelade Mattias Almlund, bakom skivspelarna mer känd som Tiaz, in två mixtapes som snabbt blev mytomspunna i Malmös halvsnurriga disco- och technokretsar. På “Fragments of Memories From Galaxia”. knöt han osannolikt snyggt ihop Quiet Villages utdragna discoflykter med Allan Parson Project, Brennan Green och Throbbing Gristle innan allt mjuklandade i Arthur Russells “Platform of the Ocean”.

Upplagan var minst sagt begränsad och skivorna delades bara ut till vänner och bekanta. Men vi som lyckades komma över ett exemplar har vårdat de ömt sedan dess. Efter mycket tjat lyckades jag förra veckan övertala Tiaz om att få lägga upp den andra av de två mixarna här. Det är bara att ladda ner, sluta ögonen och ta till vänster i rockdiscodimmorna.

Som en bonus skickade han även med en hel bunt osläppta skarpa edits som han klippt ihop. Ni hittar två av dem nedan.
