I Like It Raws klubbparasoll.

#13 NYCC – Make Everyday Count (New Re-mixed Disco Version)

Not many groups are a better symbol for the close relationship between gospel and disco than New York Community Choir, NYCC. Not many tracks are better than this uphotted and slightly different version of the title song from the album Make Everyday Count.. Pure ace! Grap the twelve if you find it. The A-side is almost as good.

Discophrenia # 1 – Vivien Vee “Destiny”

Since we never finished our Discophrenia series I’m taking matters into my own hands.
This song was first introduced to me by my friend Hanna Ahh! - the Disco Queen of Malmoe - when she finally found the 12 inch on Ebay. Later on I heard it on a great disco mixtape made by some guy called Ivan that also included Common Sense “Just Can’t Help Myself (I Really Love You)”.
There’s not much information to find about Vivien Vee. The story was that she was from the USA but living in Italy as a daughter of a diplomat. That was probably made up to fit the artist profil of Vivien Vee created by Claudio Simonetti and Giancarlo Meo (both in Capricorn and Kasso). Other facts that supports the theory that she was all italian is that her real name is Vivien Andreattini and she was born in Torino. Another thing is her italian accent that clearly shines through her vocals.
“Destiny” is italo boogie at its best and the 12 inch is really rare. One of my absolut fav’s!

Feist – Sea Line Woman (bootleg remix)

Ah, I almost forgot. The McDonalds of Swedish rock clubs - Debaser - are doing their superp music documentary/tribute club En Afton tonight in Malmö. And this time they’re having a tribute to Nina Simone.
This bootleg house remix of Feist’s cover of Nina Simone’s “Sea Line Woman” was released last year in a very limited edition of 500 ex only. The people behind it were Swedens own house combo Marymary (guess you can figure of their real names, because there ain’t that many combos in Sweden that are into deep, latin influed house music).
As usual the food loving Swedes are doing a real good job transforming Feist’s trademark Starbucks jazz into a perfect deep groover for the late night hours.

Paul Lewis – Girl You Need A Change of Mind (Idjut Boys Re-work)

If you’ve been following the disco and house scene the last decades you probably well familiar with Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell aka Idjut Boys. In one of their best edits they throw Paul Lewis version of Eddie Kendricks soul/disco bomb “Girl You Need A Change of Mind” into the echo chamber.

Good Times

Sugarhill Gang are visiting Malmoe tomorrow together with Grand Wizard Theodore, Kurtis Blow and a bunch of other men in their 50s who think that hiphop 36th anniversary is a good excuse to do a WW-tour.
That’s the second time in a year Sugarhill Gang visit Malmoe. I, who have the honour to see them at Jeriko the last time, wouldn’t recommend it for anything in the world but I thought it could be a good reason to dig up some great versions of “Good Times”. Sugarhill Gang weren’t the only ones who re-record Chics disco classic back in the days.
Charanga 76 was a salsa band who in the end of the 70s released a album with latin versions of well known disco anthems. They are probably most known for their version of Mcfadden & Whiteheads philly classic “Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now” which been included on some compilations on BBE and Strut for example. Their percussion driven version of “Good Times” is also pure ace.
The West Indian reggae/disco group Risco Connections did some great cover versions of more or less the same songs as Charanga 76. The seriously rare twelves are some of the most indemand among disco collectors all over the world.
Brazilian funksters Gang Do Tangarelas instrumental version of “Good Times”/”Rappers Delight” have been catcing sick prices on ebay every time some one manage to get hold of a original copy of the single. When the horns kicks in for the first time after 25 seconds you understand why.

DISCOPHRENIA # 2 – SASS “MUCH TOO MUCH”

Några av dem finns bland mina all time disco-favoriter; Debbie Hayes & The Universal Robot Band “Let´s Get This Thing Together”, The Dells “All About The Paper”, Sweet Thunder “Everybody´s Singin´ Love Songs”, NYCC “Make Every Day Count” & “I´ll Keep My Light In My Window”, The Universal Robot Band “Barely Breaking Even”.
Men, det finns en låt jag aldrig fått tag på, nämligen suveräna Sass “Much Too Much”.
Sass hette från början The Jack Sass Band men dumpade i början av 80-talet The Jack och Band från namnet. De enda kända medlemmarna Michael Murphy (Attitude/The System) och Laforest Cope har bl.a agerat bakgrundssångare åt storheter som Gayle Adams och Sharon Redd. 1982 kom “Much Too Much” som bolaget “25 West Records” första släpp.
