Alpha Blondy – Operation Coup De Poing

When the canadian disco yankie Brennan Green visited us during the first summer of Oh, Baby - I Like It Raw he talked about Alpha Blondy beeing his favourite reggae artist of all time. I didn’t think about that much at the time until Emil Broomé of local disco rockers Stephen Hawkings recommend this fantastic single by the legendary singer from the Ivory Coast during one of our sessions to our local record store’s basement.

It sounds like the perfect marrige of Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Radioclits and Esau’s The Very Best project and some of the big tunes from Sly & Robbies Taxi label.

Speaking of The Very Best. Check out this cover of Paul Simons “You Can Call Me Al” and tell me it isn’t a Vampire Weekend.
