I decided to stay in Bahamas for one more day. And now we’re beginning to talk real rarities.
Ray Munnings is most known for being part of Beginning of The End, a funkband from Bahamas who had a big world wide hit in 1971 with “Funky Nassau”.
What happend with the quartet who included two more munnings brothers - Roy and Frank - after that is more than I know. But a few years later when disco have taken over the dance floors Munnings re-record the song by him self in a massive steel drum driven boogie version.
It was a big hit during the rare groove days in London and the twelve inch have been catching sick prices at the vintage market both before and after brittish DJ-legend Norman Jay included it on one of his “Good Times” compilations.
What most people don’t know is that it also have a killer hypotic afro/west indian funk track at the b-side - “Jump In The Water”. As far as I know it has never been reissued.
So here you are -both of the songs from probably the rarest twelve inch in my collection, just because I’m such a nice guy today.
Ray Munnings - Funky Nassau (320)
Ray Munnings - Jump In The Water (320)

Vill bara tacka Oscar för riktig bra musik i torsdags på Styrbord Babord. Några mer utflykter till Gbg planerade i sommar?
