Bernice Watkins and Mahogany weren’t among the top names on the late disco godfather Mel Cherrens West End Records. This release is actually their only tribute to the now legendary catalogue, which is pretty strange due to the fact that it’s one of West Ends best releaser ever.
Released in 1982 it’s a perfect example of that classic garage sound that later on came to symbol the transition from disco to house, if there ever was one.
The original version sounds good as it is but I prefer the dub version with its lonely percussion rhythm that just builds and builds together with the vocals before the bass and the whole backtrack kicks in.

Sjukt bra låt…Är detta en nypress som finns i den nya re-issue katalogen? Annars är ju instrumentalen på You can´t have the cake and eat it to med Brenda Tayor samt MAWs magiska edit på North Ends kind of love, kind of life mina West End-pärlor..

Kul att du gillar bloggen! Den jag har är en original tolva. Jag tror inte den finns med i re-issue katalogen, men jag kan ha fel där. Men den är ingen av de dyrare svåråtkomliga tolvorna på West End. Jag tror jag betalade 150 kr för min på Record Mania i Stockholm.
Mycket av West Ends grejer finns ju på Junodownload.com (hittar dock inte Mahogany där) men jag måste varna för att ljudkvalitén på vissa av West End MP3:orna där (det varierar konstigt nog) verkligen är misserabel av någon anledning.
